The first storytime of the fall season and it’s in the 80’s outside. Due to a scheduling conflict, we had to have storytime outside today, and luckily the weather cooperated.
My preschool storytime is at a branch that is lucky enough to have a community garden in its backyard. The carrots, lettuce, and onions growing there went perfectly with Muncha, Muncha, Muncha so after the books I took the kids on a little tour of the garden. They looked with their eyes (not their hands) and I pulled out a few carrots for them to see. They oohed and ahhed at the “real” carrot.
For a craft, I wanted to paint with them, since I never get a chance to use paint inside. (Groups are too big, adult-kid ratio isn’t small enough, and the carpet is too new.) I spread out a long piece of yellow paper and let them go at it. At first a few of them were painting pictures of vegetables, but it soon turned into a lovely, colorful mess of paint.
