preschool story time: ice cream!

Who doesn’t like ice cream? Especially in the summer time.

Books shared:

Curious George Goes to an Ice Cream Shop by Margret Rey

Should I Share My Ice Cream? by Mo Willems

The Curious George tale got a little restless. I wouldn’t say it’s a perfect story time book, perhaps better for sharing one-on-one. The Elephant and Piggie book, on the other hand, was awesome. There were many opinions from the kids about whether or not Gerald should share his ice cream, about whether or not anyone should share ice cream (germs were mentioned), and about ways to cheer up sad friends.

In between books, we did a short rhyme, which I adapted to fit with the ice cream theme.

Five Little Cones

Five little cones in the ice cream shop.

Five little cones with ice cream on top.

Along came a kid with a penny to pay,

He took that cone and walked away.

Four, three, two, one…

No little cones in the ice cream shop.

No little cones with ice cream on top.

Along came a kid with a penny to pay,

He saw they were gone and ran away!

I had done a story time with cupcake craft before, and I easily adapted the craft into ice cream cones. The kids made some really interesting cones. I was asking them what flavor they had, or what toppings they had. One kid told me his cone was “strawberry potato chai.”
