preschool story time: quack quack

Books shared:

Old Mikamba Had a Farm by Rachel Isadora

Duck on a Bike by David Shannon

Stuck in the Mud by Jane Clarke

One Duck Stuck by Phyllis Root

I did this craft with a few different groups, and switched up the books each time. When I read Stuck in the Mud, I made triangle shaped beaks so that the craft was chicks instead of ducks. (Old Mikamba and Duck on a Bike are reviewed in more detail in my Mini Book Reviews post.)

I love glueing squares onto stuff. Also: having kids glue squares onto stuff. It’s good motor development, and it takes them more time and focus than simple coloring. These ducks are particularly sweet because when you stand them up, you can gently rock them back and forth – which the kids loved. For one group, I did the prep far in advance, and the paper plates did not rock as well since they had been folded up and stored for so long.
